An extremely Important but late learning in my life….

“Selling is Most Important Skill”

Everyone has to Sell.

Inherently being from an engineering education background, I have always focused on building products / websites etc. I used to focus on ideation but never thought that I will have to put a lot of effort into “Selling” that idea.

Selling has a stigma in our society. Most of the people end up in sales because they couldn’t find or get into something else. Sales is not seen in a respectful way.

The truth is – Each one of us is a Sales person. Everyone must sell something to make money. Employees sell their labour and time to companies. These companies sell their products and services to customers. All customers are both buyers and sellers. Founders sell their ideas to VCs.

Everyone Sells. The only exception are the people with inheritance and family wealth who don’t need to sell anything to survive. They have a choice.

And in my last 2 years, I have deeply realised that Sales is the most important activity in any company. Getting the money into the organisation is the most impactful work – and hence most of the companies are run by sales & marketing people and not the product people.

At the end, I would like to quote Naval Ravikant’s saying: “Learn to sell, learn to build, if you can do both, you will be unstoppable!”
